In July at Paliesius Manor – abundance and variety

July is full not only of blossoms, greenery, heat, and scents, but also of music at Paliesius Manor! This month, as many as eight concerts will take place in the manor’s concert hall “Pasaga”. We will start the month by traveling through “Roots and Currents” – saxophonist Karolis Šarkus and electronic musician Domantas Pūras will perform. That same weekend, the famous pianist Andrius Žlabys will return to the manor with a special guest. On the second weekend, we will hear cellist Augustas Gocentas and fiery cello music. On the third weekend, one of the most impressive events of the manor’s year will take place, the already third “Kremerata Baltica Festival” – Maestro Gidon Kremer, the chamber orchestra “Kremerata Baltica”, and four guest soloists will gift listeners a wonderful two-day musical journey. And on the last weekend, the famous accordionist Martynas Levickis will perform twice – music from different eras will be played, which, interpreted by him, will take on a new sound.


 

July 4, 16:00 | Karolis Šarkus and Domantas Pūras – “Roots and Currents”

Two composers will perform: saxophonist Karolis Šarkus and electronic musician Domantas Pūras. The voice of the saxophone and electronic textures will merge into a constantly changing soundscape, where earth and movement, tradition and future, form and spontaneity meet. Roots symbolize acoustic sound, the natural breathing of the instrument, and musical origins, while currents represent electronics and constantly flowing energy. Experimental music and improvisations inspired by Lithuanian folk music motifs will be played.

Karolis Šarkus is a saxophonist and composer, one of the most active and progressive young creators of the Lithuanian jazz scene. His music combines the language of contemporary jazz with a clear melodic mindset, while his saxophone sound is characterized by a warm, rich tone and flawless technique. Domantas Pūras is a Lithuanian composer actively working in the field of experimental, electroacoustic, and contemporary academic music. In his work, acoustic instruments interact organically with electronics, extracting new sound worlds.

 

 

July 5, 16:00 | Andrius Žlabys (piano, USA / Lithuania)

The famous pianist Andrius Žlabys returns to Paliesius Manor. The performer was nominated for a prestigious Grammy award and is one of the most prominent contemporary Lithuanian pianists, having gained international recognition. He is known to many as an exceptional artist characterized by a unique philosophy of sound and simply excellent interpretations of classical and contemporary works for piano. Worldwide, he is valued for his “effortless” virtuosity, generous and all-encompassing sound, mesmerizing interpretations, and richness of musical perception. The concert at Paliesius Manor will feature the music of Bach, Schumann, and Beethoven.

Special guest of the evening: violist Justinas Žlabys, born in New Haven, Connecticut, who has been studying at the Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Boston since 2020. After the concert, a personal photography exhibition by Andrius Žlabys will also be presented.

 

 

 

 

July 11, 16:00 | Burning Cello

Fiery cello music will sound in the manor. Lithuanian cellist Augustas Gocentas will perform in the “Burning Cello” concert – music by both classical and modern composers will be played. The musician is a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO), has played together with the chamber orchestra “Kremerata Baltica”, the “Baltic Sea Philharmonic” orchestra, and the joint symphony orchestra of the Sibelius and Juilliard schools, as well as several Lithuanian orchestras. In 2022, he won the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Quartet audition and the Apprenticeship program in the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. Since the beginning of his studies in Finland, Augustas has been invited to numerous festivals and actively participates in competitions – he has won first place and a special prize for the interpretation of a compulsory piece at the 9th A. Dombrovskis Competition in Latvia, and third place at the 10th K. Davydov Competition in Latvia. He performs frequently – to date, he has held forty recitals with fifteen different programs.

 

 

 

July 18-19 | “Kremerata Baltica” Festival at Paliesius Manor | 2026

The impressive “Kremerata Baltica” festival will take place at Paliesius Manor for the third time. We invite you to three concerts: at 18:00 on July 18, and at 11:30 and 17:00 on July 19. An extraordinary musical journey awaits – a dynamic and contrast-filled program combining classical and 20th-century works, revealing the diversity of European composers’ styles and musical language.

The main performers of the festival are one of the most famous violinists of today, Maestro Gidon Kremer, and the Grammy Award-winning orchestra “Kremerata Baltica” founded by him, which has performed over 1,000 concerts in 600 cities. They will be joined by four prominent guest soloists from various countries. The Beethoven sonata recorded with the orchestra by the multi-award-winning Canadian cellist Luka Coetzee took first place in the “Apple Music Classical Video Charts” in more than 40 countries. Rising German star, pianist Julius Asal, is considered one of the most promising performers of his generation. Cellist Magdalena Ceple, who won the title of Latvia’s Young Musician of the Year, is distinguished by exceptional flexibility, musicality, and high mastery. Ukrainian Andrei Pushkarev, who once became the youngest principal timpanist in the Ukrainian Symphony Orchestra, is now the principal percussionist of “Kremerata Baltica”.

 

July 25, 16:00 / July 26, 14:00 | Martynas Levickis. Solo

Solo concerts by accordionist Martynas Levickis at Paliesius Manor. The program will feature works by Mozart, Mahler, Piazzolla, and Glass – music from different eras, which, interpreted by Levickis, will take on a new sound. Martynas Levickis is a world-renowned performer who constantly expands the boundaries of the accordion’s possibilities. He is famous for his ability to combine classical, tango, and electronic music, and often performs in unconventional spaces. The Independent newspaper described the musician as “the amazingly talented man who single-handedly reinvented the accordion”. Having graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in London and “Musikene” in San Sebastián, the performer became the first accordionist to sign a contract with Decca Classics and reach number one on the UK Classical Album Chart. Having received more than 30 international awards, the musician now appears at major European festivals, collaborates with top-level musicians, and is welcomed on the most prestigious stages in the world.
