Description
Piotr Anderszewski first captured the public’s attention in 1990 when, during the semi-finals of the Leeds Piano Competition, he walked off the stage without finishing his piece, feeling he was not playing well enough.
The pianist is renowned for his perfectionism—he selects his composers and repertoire with meticulous care. As he once noted in an interview, “I cannot play just anything.”
Today, the artist is highly acclaimed and eagerly welcomed in prestigious concert halls worldwide. He regularly performs on the most celebrated stages of Vienna, Berlin, New York, Paris, and Amsterdam. He plays with the London Symphony, London Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, and other orchestras.
The pianist is a recipient of the Gilmore Artist Award, the Szymanowski Award, and the Royal Philharmonic Society Award. Piotr Anderszewski has collaborated on several occasions with filmmaker Bruno Monsaingeon, the French director behind films on Glenn Gould, Sviatoslav Richter, David Oistrakh, and other prominent musicians. Three films are dedicated to the personality of pianist Piotr Anderszewski. One of the most unforgettable moments captured in documentary film is the pianist’s train journey from Warsaw to Budapest. During the trip, Piotr Anderszewski played a grand piano specially installed for him in a train compartment.
Speaking about the anxiety that visits him before performances, the pianist has said: “I try to embrace it and, during the concert, not pretend to be better than I am. Besides, adrenaline is necessary for my hands.”
