A Pinch of History #64

We are sharing an archival photo of Paliesius Manor!

In it, “Prince” Bržezinskis is captured riding a bicycle in front of the covered main entrance in 1916. Romualdas Bržezinskis became the administrator of Paliesius Manor around 1900 and effectively began managing the estate. In 1916, he was already the master of the manor in practice, although not yet legally. In German military documents, he was sometimes referred to as “Fürst” (prince), although this more likely meant “lord of the manor” or a high-status landowner. In 1921, R. Bržezinskis became the official owner of Paliesius Manor, its last owner before nationalization.
