UP CLOSE: PINO DE VITTORIO

Pino de Vittorio is a renowned Italian actor and singer.

The artist was born in Leporano (Taranto)—a town in the southern Italian region of Apulia, associated with the tarantella. He began his artistic career striving to revive the traditions of this region.

At just 22 years old, he founded the theater and music company “Pupi e Fresedde” with Angelo Savelli. He later joined Roberto De Simone’s theater company, where he frequently performed the leading roles in some of his most important works, from “Mistero Napolitano” to “Stabat Mater”. The performances traveled across the globe. Pino de Vittorio has appeared at the “San Carlo” theater, the “Champs Elyseés” in Paris, and in London for the English royal family. His roles are highly diverse, ranging from the comic to the serious, much like his voice: he has sung as both a tenor and a soprano. The musician also plays the “battente” guitar.

Following this, Pino de Vittorio founded several other companies: the group “Media Aetas” and the baroque ensemble “Cappella della Pietà dei Turchini” with Antonio Florio. Over more than 30 years of activity, they presented often-forgotten historical music, interpreted almost completely forgotten Neapolitan cantatas, released over 40 albums, and performed around the world. Pino de Vittorio has received several honors, including the “Saturo d’Argento” and “Mousiké Regione Puglia” awards.

On May 30, Pino de Vittorio and three instrumentalists will perform at Paliesius Manor, presenting the program “Tarantella del rimorso” – traditional songs from Apulia, the artist’s birthplace.
