On April 19, we invite you on an extraordinary historical hike—to discover the traces of the First World War hidden close by.
Though more than 100 years have passed since the end of the First World War (1914–1918) and this chapter of history has faded into obscurity, the fortifications that bear witness to that era remain etched into the landscape. They catch the eye, drawing our thoughts back to the events and painful experiences of the past.
On both sides of the Adutiškis–Vidžiai road (Didžiasalis eldership), along a stretch of approximately 50 km (part of which lies within Belarusian territory), more than 50 German military structures of various purposes have survived: residential buildings, artillery and garrison bunkers, shelters, storehouses, and dugouts. These sites can be reached by car or on foot.
This hike is an opportunity to touch living history, to feel the spirit of a bygone era, and to learn the hidden secrets of our region from your guide.
Route (by car, approximately 15 km): Paliesius Manor – Jakeliai village – toward the first front line (Medinai front center).
Route (on foot, approximately 8 km): hiking along the winding Kamaja River toward the active front line. We won’t reveal the entire route—let it remain a secret for you to discover as we journey together…
