May 24 at Paliesius Manor – A meeting and readings with actors of the Lithuanian National Drama Theater

On May 24 at 2 PM, we invite you to Paliesius Manor for an evening of Algimantas Mackus’s poetry and dramatic texts, “Ar iš tikrųjų patekės saulė, kai manęs nebus?”—an encounter with one of the most radical figures in 20th-century Lithuanian literature. An émigré poet belonging to the so-called “landless generation,” Mackus forged his art between the experiences of loss and exile, between faith and doubt, on the very boundary of language and silence. Though known primarily as a poet, his work reveals a powerful dramaturgical structure. The dialogic nature of his writing, the conflict of inner voices, the pauses and the unspoken—all allow the text to resonate like a theatrical setting where language is tested to its absolute limits.

According to the author, “when no certainty remains, when I doubt even the simplest things, even everyday natural phenomena—only then do I commit to the creative process.”

The works of Mackus will be read by actors of the Lithuanian National Drama Theater Vaidilė Juozaitytė, Šarūnas Rapolas Meliešius, Arūnas Vozbutas; director – Regina Garuolytė. The voices of professional actors will reveal the inner rhythm of Mackus’s texts, their dramatic silence and existential intensity, transforming the evening from a mere literary reading into a living encounter with the poet’s art. Following the reading, there will be a meeting and conversation with the creative team, moderated by dramaturge Sigita Ivaškaitė.

The event is free. Space is limited.
