7MD.LT: Classical April at Paliesius Manor

As spring gathers pace, Paliesius Manor welcomes the season with a classical touch—yet across the month’s three concerts, listeners can expect unexpected interpretations and rarely heard works. During the first concert of the month on April 11, Chopin, Čiurlionis, and other romantics converged in a program by young-generation pianist Ignas Maknickas. The following weekend (April 18), the young, eight-member ensemble “Dar vieni” will blow the dust off the Baroque, seeking to present this music as an explosive energy that commands the stage. And on the final Sunday of the month (April 26), five international musicians, including the renowned Polish violinist Janusz Wawrowski, will paint a musical portrait of the Lithuanian-born Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz for our listeners.

April 18, 4:00 PM | “Dar vieni” – Baroque Without Dust

“Baroque Without Dust” will resound at Paliesius Manor. The young ensemble “Dar vieni” intends to free the Baroque from its museum frames, presenting this music as something alive, pulsing, and captivating—meant to celebrate, to mourn, and to express passion and inner tremors. The concert will feature the music of the most famous Baroque composers: Vivaldi, Bach, Corelli, and Telemann. Even after hundreds of years, these works continue to astonish with their vitality and emotional truth.

The “Dar vieni” ensemble is comprised of violinists Simas Tankevičius, Milda Kraujutaitytė, Nadia Gailė, and Jonė Barbora Kiznė, violist Rūta Buišaitė, cellist Lukas Cikanavičius, double bassist Aušvydas Kriščiūnas, and harpsichordist Skirmantė Kirkliauskaitė. Their interpretations are authentic, energetic, vivid, and modern, making every concert not merely a performance, but an emotion the ensemble wishes to share with the audience.

April 26, 2:00 PM | A Violin Odyssey: Portrait of Grażyna Bacewicz

The concert “A Violin Odyssey: Portrait of Grażyna Bacewicz” is dedicated to discovering the work of this Lithuanian-born Polish composer. Her portrait will be painted in sound by five talented musicians: four violinists and a pianist. The program features musical works rarely heard in Lithuania.

Janusz Wawrowski is considered one of the most accomplished violinists of his generation; his interpretations have been described as “performances balancing on the edge of possibilities.” German violinist Linus Roth was awarded an Echo Klassik for “Best Newcomer” for his debut CD, later receiving another Echo Klassik for a subsequent recording. Violinist Judyta Kluza-Sporniak is a laureate of many solo and chamber music competitions, including first place at the Bach Soloists Competition in Poznań, while violinist Zofia Anna Olesik is a laureate of more than 30 national and international competitions in total. Pianist Aleksandra Świgut, who also performs on historical instruments, is not only a laureate of numerous competitions but also a nominee for the “Corypheus,” Poland’s most important classical music award.
