In February, as the air gently warms and the quiet anticipation of spring awakens, Paliesius Manor will resonate with wonderfully diverse and often unexpected music. We will begin the month with the concert “Late Junctions,” where you will hear a countertenor, a vocal ensemble, and the kanklės weave through everything from baroque arias to postmodern works. On February 14, the concert “Dviem balsais” brings together A. Zakarauskas and L. Dužinskas—a seamless union of voice and piano. This will be followed by “Žalčio sonata”—pianist Eglė Andrejevaitė’s dedication to M. K. Čiurlionis and an innovative look at the composer. The month concludes with an unexpected instrumental pairing: violinist D. Simaška and accordionist L. Salijus will send off the winter to the rhythm of a dance.

February 7, 4:00 PM | “Late Junctions”
Paliesius Manor will host the program “Late Junctions.” The program was inspired by the beloved BBC Radio 3 show “Late Junction,” where starkly different musical genres sound side by side. In this Lithuanian iteration, you will hear a countertenor—a rarity in Lithuania—alongside the kanklės, an instrument more often tied to the folk repertoire. Together with a vocal ensemble, baroque arias, and works of minimalism and postmodernism, they will merge into a single organic, novel, and entirely different listening experience.
Performers: sopranos Ieva Marmienė and Viktorija Šedbaraitė, mezzo-soprano Gintarė Kulikauskytė, countertenor Vaidas Bartušas, tenors Paulius Klangauskas and Deividas Janušas, baritone Artūras Miknaitis, bass Alfredas Miniotas, kanklės players Lauryna Labutytė, Ramunė Rimšienė, Aušrinė Ulinskaitė. Program concept authors: Ana Ablamonova, Marta Finkelštein. Program compilers: Ana Ablamonova, Vaidas Bartušas, Lina Žilinskaitė. Producer: “Operomanija”.
February 14, 4:00 PM | “Dviem balsais”
Paliesius Manor presents the Lithuanian diaspora concert “Dviem balsais”, a sensitive journey through music and poetry. Here, the voice will resound in two ways: as the sung human word, and as a musical language coming to life through the piano. At the center of the evening is tenor Antanas Zakarauskas, one of Lithuania’s most compelling contemporary soloists, possessing the ability to subtly weave together emotional resonance, a deep feel for the text, and a refined musical expression. The singer will be accompanied by pianist Linas Dužinskas, whose sensitive touch on the keys will become an inseparable part of this musical narrative.
The axis of the concert will be the music of Lithuanian diaspora composer Bruno Markaitis, featuring his vocal cycle “Sonatos ir fugos” based on the poetry of Kazys Bradūnas. The program also includes M. K. Čiurlionis’s Prelude in B minor for piano, the song “Mikit, lankos” (Lithuanian text by Darius Kučinskas), and three pieces from Anatolijus Šenderovas’s cycle “Eskizai Čiurlioniui”. This will be a delicate encounter with music that speaks to what is eternal within us: memories, longing, and a quiet desire for beauty.
February 21, 4:00 PM | Žalčio sonata | Dedikacija Čiurlioniui
We welcome the Čiurlionis-dedicated concert “Žalčio sonata.” This concert program by pianist Eglė Andrejevaitė offers an innovative perspective on the work of one of Lithuania’s most renowned painters and composers. The first to “gaze” upon him musically will be composer Giedrius Kuprevičius, whose sonata is a reflection on M. K. Čiurlionis’s painting cycle of the same name. The center of the program will feature Mūza Rubackytė’s transcription for solo piano of his only string quartet, the String Quartet in C minor. The program will be “crowned” by the six Druskininkai preludes, composed in a mere three weeks in his native Druskininkai.
An international competition laureate, pianist Eglė Andrejevaitė has performed in all major Lithuanian concert halls and festivals, as well as in Italy, Australia, and the US. Her concerts have been recorded and broadcast by Lithuanian and Styrian (Austria) radio. The pianist is known for her selection of conceptual solo programs. Her concert program “9 LOBIAI,” dedicated to contemporary Baltic music, was broadcast by LRT KLASIKA, while the concert-performance “Žiema Maljorkoje,” prepared with actress and director Birutė Mar, has been performed over 20 times in Lithuania.
February 28, 4:00 PM | DUO SIMAŠKA & SALIJUS: “Šokio ritmu”
We invite you to send off the winter to a dance rhythm at Paliesius Manor. Taking the stage will be “Duo Simaška & Salijus”—an exceptional pairing that unites two distinct yet beautifully complementary musical instruments: the violin and the accordion. Within this duet, their sound takes on a unique expressiveness and an elegantly harmonious balance. Talented and innovative musicians—violinist Dalia Simaška and accordionist Laimonas Salijus—are among the brightest performers of Lithuania’s younger generation. Laureates of both national and international competitions, they perform extensively in Lithuania and abroad. Their repertoire spans a rich array of genres, from classical to contemporary music, all presented with profound sensitivity and creative flair. In the concert program “Šokio ritmu,” the performers will present a wonderful variety of music and a truly outstanding mastery of execution. Expect to hear pieces by contemporary composers such as Mikołaj Majkusiak, Gediminas Gelgotas, and Ole Edvard Antonsen, alongside the music of worldly classical masters like César Franck and Astor Piazzolla.
