This is a special project, bringing together four outstanding Latvian musicians to mark the composer’s upcoming 80th birthday in 2026. Violinist Magdalēna Geka has performed in many of Europe’s most prestigious halls, earning honors from London’s Parkhouse Award, Germany’s International Marschner Competition, as well as Pro Musicis and the Académie des Beaux-Arts. Cellist Kristaps Bergs is not only an active performer but a deeply inquisitive musician, nominated several times for the Latvian Grand Music Award. Egīls Šēfers is one of Latvia’s best-known clarinetists, a laureate of international competitions, and a soloist who performs even the most complex parts with incredible ease. Iveta Calite is a pianist who has performed in many countries and recorded multiple albums, as well as a dedicated chamber music artist.
The quartet will perform Olivier Messiaen’s “Quartet for the End of Time,” P. Vasks’ piano trio “Episodi e Canto Perpetuo,” which was inspired by this work, and Arvo Pärt’s composition “Fratres.”
