On September 24, 2023, Paliesius Manor hosted a unique project hidden behind a Fluxus-inspired title—an evening of music and lyricism, during which Prof. Vytautas Landsbergis read his poetry, while percussionist Vladimir Tarasov filled it with the mesmerizing sounds of percussion.
Before the concert, Vladimir Tarasov shared that “these are the internal games of artists, where creators have the opportunity to play with sound, text, and image for their own pleasure. Without trying to please the audience or listeners, and avoiding templates and standards. And the viewers become not just witnesses to this process, but, of course, its participants.”
And Prof. V. Landsbergis added: “Music always saves us. Even in the hour of fatigue. It is almost the finest form of rest. An opportunity to transport oneself into a more perfect world, a world of beauty, and to step away from exhausting things. Music does not tire; music liberates. As the music teacher Ignas Prielgauskas used to say: ‘Marvel at having invented something.’ A person should be encouraged to be that inventor, or—as our classic writers used to say—an imaginative storyteller. An imaginative storyteller is a living person.
Music means a great deal to me. In the broadest sense, it is a gateway to the world, to understanding it, to understanding humanity. To understanding oneself… It is a chance to discover so much: things you did not yet know, things you had not yet touched. Furthermore, of course, it is a realm in which I have worked extensively in various other respects, where there are many completed and yet unfinished works, but those are not what matters most to me. Sometimes I used to think of music as a model of the world, an expression of its essence in the purest, most beautiful way. This is not a new thought. People far wiser than I have spoken of this, having realized it in the very distant past.”
