LRT.LT: Paliesius Manor Concerts. New Ideas Chamber Orchestra NIKO: The End is the Beginning

On January 6, 2024, Paliesius Manor hosted the NIKO Chamber Orchestra’s concert, “Pabaiga yra pradžia”.

During the concert, Gediminas Gelgotas and the New Ideas Chamber Orchestra NIKO performed compositions by the renowned minimalists Arvo Pärt (Estonia) and Philip Glass (USA), alongside works by the visionary behind the concert’s program, Gediminas Gelgotas (Lithuania). The latter’s music has already echoed through the halls of the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, and the Tonhalle in Zurich, among others, and is broadcast on the international Mezzo TV channel. Critics frequently highlight Gelgotas’s unique and highly captivating musical language. Rooted in the aesthetics of minimalism, it weaves modern, multi-stylistic influences that marry the ascetic beauty of melody with a contagious rhythmic drive. The New Ideas Chamber Orchestra NIKO was founded in 2006 by composer and conductor Gediminas Gelgotas. Known for their deeply engaging and original performances, this string ensemble plays progressive classical music entirely by memory. They seamlessly blend masterful string instrumentation with minimalist visual stage effects. The joy of music-making, originality, courage, and exceptional quality of performance—all these words perfectly capture the essence of NIKO.

Performers: New Ideas Chamber Orchestra NIKO: Augusta Zuokė (violin), Julija Andersson (violin), Agata Ursul (violin), Dalia Simaška (violin, viola), Liudvikas Silickas (cello), Povilas Paukštė (cello), Gediminas Gelgotas (voice, piano / conductor and artistic director)
