We share a memory from pianist Jurgis Karnavičius’s concert, “An Hour with Philip Glass,” held last winter on February 12, 2022.
Jurgis Karnavičius is one of the most distinguished Lithuanian pianists of the older generation, a professor at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, and has headed the LMTA Piano Department for the past nine years. In the 1980s, he was one of the first Lithuanian pianists to win awards at truly prestigious international piano competitions (the R. Schumann in Zwickau, the L. van Beethoven in Vienna, and others). Performing both as a soloist and alongside various ensembles, as well as with his wife, opera soloist Sigutė Stonytė, he has left a profound mark in the realms of chamber music and accompaniment.
