Description
On May 9, world-renowned Norwegian jazz pianist Tord Gustavsen returns to Paliesius Manor! The manor will resonate with his own music: original compositions intertwined with Norwegian folk melodies, Bach chorales, and freely improvised passages. Do not miss the opportunity to hear this jazz superstar and his exceptional music!
Pianist Tord Gustavsen has been an important figure in the intriguing Norwegian jazz scene for two decades. The prestigious ECM Records label has released ten albums under his name, featuring both his trio and larger musical ensembles.
Tord tours extensively across the globe, performing at festivals, in concert halls, churches, and major jazz clubs. He has garnered numerous awards and honors, including a Norwegian Grammy (Spellemannsprisen), the NOPA prize for best jazz composition, the esteemed German Jahrespreis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik for the best album of 2016 regardless of genre, and the title of “European Jazz Musician of the Year 2024” awarded by the French Académie du jazz.
Tord has also collaborated with other prominent artists from Norway, Turkey, Iran, the US, Azerbaijan, and beyond: vocalists Mahsa Vahdat, Alim Qasimov, Kim Rysstad, Simin Tander, and Solveig Slettahjell, as well as instrumentalists Nils Petter Molvær, Arve Henriksen, Trygve Seim, and Nils Økland. As a musical director, arranger, and composer, he has worked with the Norwegian Girls Choir, the Oslo Cathedral Choir, and the Oslo Chamber Choir, and has performed with the elite Estonian choir Vox Clamantis.
Tord is a graduate of the legendary jazz academy in Trondheim, Norway, and holds a degree in musicology and psychology from the University of Oslo.
In his solo concerts, Tord often creates a free-flowing stream of consciousness, weaving his original compositions together with Norwegian folk melodies, Bach chorales, and freely improvised sections—all of which form a highly original blend grounded in meditative music.
